Mount Magnet is a comparatively large town 350 km east of Geraldton, Cue is a small town 80 km north of it. There are many places in the surronding area that are worth visiting. Among them are The Granites and Walga Rock (please see a separate album). There is also the Wilgie Mia ochra mine (~70 km north-west of Cue) that first started operating about 30,000 years ago.
Other interesting places are ruins of abandoned mining towns, Lennonville (11 km north of Mount Magnet) and Day Dawn (5 km south-west of Cue). Hundreds of people use to live there, now only the railway platform remains in Lennonville (boom town in gold rush days) and allegedly haunted ruins of hospital at Day Dawn. The Lennonville railway platform in the middle of nowhere (from which lots and lots of people travelled in the past) feels much more haunted than any ruins...
Please visit the Cue Tourism Centre (located in Robinson Street) and get all the necessary maps and instructions before going "bush". You can also call them beforehand on +61-8-9963-1216. Please leave the gates as you found them, have plenty of water and advise someone about your plans - in case you'll need assistance. Four-wheel drive vehicle is very much advisable for some routes.
